One of the biggest advantages of choosing sod over seed is that you get instant gratification. With sodding, you get an immediate result – in many cases, your lawn will look perfect after installation. In contrast, seeding can take weeks or even months before you see a significant amount of growth.
Sodding requires significantly less maintenance than seeding because it's already established grass. After laying down the sod and watering it thoroughly, the turf generally requires little to no additional care outside of routine mowing and fertilizing. Compared to seeding which requires consistent watering, weeding and possible re-seeding with each season – sodding offers much less maintenance overall.
Sodding also offers denser lawns than seeded alternatives do – since sodded grass is already established, weeds and pests are much less likely to take hold in your newly laid turf. For those looking for a pristine green lawn free from pests or weeds, this is an important factor to consider when choosing between sodded and seeded options!
Sod helps reduce soil erosion by providing a strong layer of grass that holds the soil in place and prevents water runoff. This helps to maintain healthy soil nutrient levels and protect nearby vegetation from harm.
Sod is a living product, and to fully enjoy its benefits, it needs proper care from the moment it arrives. Each order is freshly cut and palletized, so it’s crucial to lay it the same day for the best results.
To ensure a smooth installation:
Once laid, sod should be watered immediately to encourage root growth. On hot days, soak the sod as you go—don’t wait until the entire area is installed to begin watering. This is especially critical in summer months when high temperatures can quickly dry out the sod. Spring and Fall are the best times to install sod, thanks to cooler temperatures and more frequent rainfall.

Sod deliveries require planning. We recommend placing your order at least a week in advance to ensure availability. While we often deliver sooner, it’s not guaranteed. Unlike mulch or other landscaping materials, sod is a perishable product that requires careful scheduling and preparation.
Texas Sod Depot is a leading supplier of premium-quality sod, serving both residential and commercial customers. We provide fresh sod at competitive prices with reliable, timely delivery. Whether you're tackling a home improvement project or a large-scale landscaping job, we’re here to help.
